A Rough Guide to New York

New York tours

New York City is one of the most exciting and diverse cities in America. A tourist can easily turn a corner and find themselves in what seems like a foreign country. Flights to New York land from all over the country and if you do a little research, you'll find a multitude of reasonable and cheap flights to New York . If it's your first time in New York City, most of what you'll be interested in seeing will be in Manhattan. Manhattan holds gems like the Empire State Building, Central Park, Macy's, the New York Public Library, Broadway, and Times Square. If you're in NYC on a day trip, make the first slot on your itinerary a trip to Times Square. Truth be told, there's not much to see in Times Square once you see all the Coke and Broadway advertisements, but it's still an experience you should see at least once. Even the Times Square McDonalds signs are lit up with a multitude of bulbs.

Other than a quick glance at the flashing billboards and lights, the only thing in Times Square besides TKTS, a discount Broadway ticket booth, is the giant Toys R' Us. The multi-story store will wow any child or adult. Toys R' Us houses a giant Ferris wheel within the store along with giant Lego statues made to look like the Empire State Building or movie stars. Take refuge in Candy Land on the top floor: giant Candy Land characters greet you as you wander about massive varieties of candy from yesterday, today, and tomorrow. For a more traditional New York toy institution, head to FAO Schwarz, where Tom Hanks played a giant piano in the movie Big.

Even if museums put you to sleep, you've got to put in at least an hour at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. You'll see some of the finest paintings in the world alongside ancient suits of armor, an Egyptian sarcophagus, statues, ornate woodcarvings, etc. When you need a break from the massive exhibits, grab some fresh air in Central Park, located right outside the Museum.

If you came to New York City for shopping, 5th Avenue will be a dream come true. Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, Tiffany's, and FAO Schwarz are all located along this famous strip. Of course, you can't leave NYC without visiting one of New York's spectacular Broadway shows. New York City, along with London's West End, hosts the best theater in the entire world. You can always find a wide variety of well-acted musicals, dramas, Shakespearean works, comedies, farces, and mysteries. Don't be afraid of the off-Broadway shows, either. No matter what you choose to do in New York City, it's sure to be an experience unlike any other. So do your research and snag one of LaGuardia's many New York flights . Grab a signature yellow cab and start exploring all the Big Apple has to offer. Enjoy your time at one of the world's biggest and brightest cities.
